This fly reel for line class #5 was made by dutch reelmaker Ids Schukken.
Each one of these reels is completely turned and assembled in his workshop.
The used material is titanium. The spool is held in place entirely by vacuum and friction. The bearings and the drag system are encapsulated which helps to protect them from humidity and dirt. The reels are also salt water safe.
The drag can be adjusted really accurately. It makes a pleasant noise when a fish takes line.
In the standard configuration both the frame and the spool are made of titanium. It is possible to get it with an additional spool made of PEI (see pictures). PEI is a material with a yellow-golden colour that has a great mechanic solidity and stiffness. It is widely used in the construction of planes and spaceships. In the last few years PEI gained popularity in high-end reelmaking.
The additional PEI spool costs 250,00 Euros. With two spools (titanium and PEI) the price for the reel is 900,00 Euro.
line capacity: #5 + 50m backing
About “Schukken design”:
Ids Schukken was born in 1949 in Tjerkwerd in the dutch province Friesland.
In his professional life Ids worked as a teacher at a technical high school. He has been flyfishing for 40 years so it was an easy choice to start building split cane rods and reels. By now he is looking back on 35 years in rodbuilding and 25 years in reelmaking.
Ids only builds reels during wintertime. In summer he concentrates on fishing the polders of his home area for pike and pikeperch.
Through his work in a technical high school Ids is a true expert using a turning bench, a milling machine and other tools.
The products made by “Schukken design” will never be available in big numbers because he does every work step himself.
Buying a “Schukken design” reel you will receive a handmade product of outstanding quality.
