Here we offer you a hollow built 8´9 #4 by Chris Carpenter. It is in new and unfished condition.
This is a really interesting rod because bamboo rods in the 8´-8´9 range in #4 are very rare because they are not an easy task to make.
Longer bamboo rods than 7´6 often lack the necessary “snappiness” you are searching for in these rods.
In the 1950s those longer rods have been very popular in #5-6 and later builders of longer rods were: Fries, Reams, Brandin and Wojnicki. The two last ones had a rod shop together and Chris was very much influenced by these two well known Californian rodmakers.
The hollowing techniques he learned above all from Curt Elder.
This special rod offered here weighs only 3.4 oz. (96 grams). Chris made any effort to make it as light as possible. So the rod is not only hollowbuilt but has also ultra thin guides, short ferrules and a hand rubbed oil finish instead of a heavier dipped varnish. It has a nicely shaped cork grip and cork reel seat which also reduces the weight.
The rod comes with a medium progressive action.
It comes together with a dark blue rod sock and the original silver rod tube.
If you are searching for a long and light rod for medium sized rivers also fishing from the bank this is one of the best choices you can find.
